Midwifery-led care through JOGG integrates the art and science of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood. When choosing midwifery-led care all antenatal and postnatal visits are bulk billed. All the JOGG midwives are endorsed and able to provide you with all your blood work, ultrasounds and even prescriptions.

Our midwives take into account all aspects of your pregnancy including the emotional, cultural, spiritual, psychological, and physical factors that impact you during this time. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures that your care addresses both your holistic and medical needs.

Pregnancy Care

The JOGG Midwives Private program is exclusive to those women delivering at Joondalup Private Hospital with Mike Kamara. As part of this program, your JOGG midwife will support you throughout your transition into parenthood. Your midwife will care for you, answer your calls and questions in partnership with your obstetrician, and provide you with support every step of the way. You will see your JOGG Midwife and Obstetrician at standard time points in your pregnancy. The relationship you build with your midwife is fluid and constant over your pregnancy and early newborn days. The JOGG Midwives program is centred on making sure you receive the support and expertise you need from the moment you choose to have your baby with us through to those first few weeks after your baby is born.

Labour & Birth

With the Midwifery Led Care program, your midwife will be at your birth, providing you the strength and support you need during labour. Your midwife can provide early labour support at home and will be your advocate as well as your partners support system, helping your partner help you. Your midwife will help you and your family with the initial breastfeed and one to one assistance with your newborn and transfer to the postnatal ward.

After Birth Care

Once you have been discharged from the hospital your care will continue with an additional 6 weeks of postnatal care. Your midwife will provide you with the support and education you may need during your transition to parenthood. You will have your 6 week appointment with your obstetrician.

Mike Kamara

Obstetrician BHLTHSCI, BMEDSCI (HONS 1ST CLASS), MBBS (UWA), MREPMED (UNSW), FRANZCOG, FACOG

I had the privilege of growing up in a medical home learning the virtues of service from the cradle as they say. I convinced my father to let me see a caesarean delivery at 7 and I guess the rest was history. In medical school I briefly toyed with the idea of doing internal medicine but after exposure to maternity and gynaecology I knew I couldn’t really do anything else and feel fulfilled. There was just something about the amazing privilege of helping to safely bring a new live/lives into the world and the care afterwards that I knew I had to be a part of.

Laura Millar

Registered (Endorsed) Midwife BHSC (Midwifery)

I trained in New Zealand and have a Bachelor in Health Science (Midwifery). I have spent the last 10+ years in Australia working as a midwife where I extended my qualifications to become an Endorsed Midwife which enables me to provide maternity care outside of the hospital. I became a midwife because I love being Mum (plus my mum told me too!) The transition from woman to mother has been a powerful experience for me and seeded my love of midwifery. It's this passion that I can pass on to my all of my women! My ultimate goal in my career is to empower women during their maternity experience by sharing my knowledge and my expertise in pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood.

Midwives are qualified medical professionals who are trained to provide you with the full range of maternity care In Australia, registered midwives have either completed a bachelor degree course specifically in midwifery, or are registered nurses who have done postgraduate study to become midwives. Midwives are trained to care for you through pregnancy, labour and birth. Your midwife (in collaboration with an obstetrician) will guide and support you through your pregnancy with a series of appointments tailored for your needs and safety. Your appointments with your midwife at JOGG will include all of your blood work, scans and education necessary for a healthy pregnancy as well as preparation for your birth. You see the same midwife at every visit, this ensures continuity. Although we are not at your birth, our aim is to empower you and your family throughout your pregnancy so that when your big day comes, you will feel informed and strong enough to achieve the birthing experience that you want.

Postnatal Care Public / Private

Postnatal Care Public / Private

At JOGG we offer an extended postnatal care service to support your recovery after birth, provide breastfeeding and parenting education and support, screen for common postnatal conditions, and provide clinical care to women and newborns. Your JOGG midwife will guide you through your transition into parenthood for 6 weeks after your birth. With weekly (if needed) appointments to help with newborn cares and breastfeeding you will feel confident in your ability to provide the best possible care for your growing family.

Good news! Here at JOGG we welcome all expecting families, both insured and uninsured.

If you don't have private health insurance there no need to worry! All appointments are bulk billed you deliver at your public hospital.

There is a $200 access fee, which includes all antenatal care, and 6 weeks postnatal care.

EVERYONE!  We have pathways for the insured, uninsured and Medicare families.

A family’s pregnancy and circumstances are unique and that’s why we offer obstetrician-led care as well as midwifery-led care at JOGG.

When choosing midwifery-led care all antenatal and postnatal visits are included. The JOGG midwives are endorsed and able to provide you with all of your blood work, ultrasounds and even prescriptions, as they work in collaboration with the obstetricians at JOGG.

This is not something we offer yet for public patients - however we may do in the future.

There is an option for women delivering on the private side of the hospital to have your midwife as a support person during your birth (additional cost).  Please note that our midwives have limited spots for this option and is not available for all women.
Studies have shown many benefits associated with midwifery led care. Continuity of care is well known for higher satisfaction of maternity care, less likely to have an induction of labour, pharmacological pain relief (if that's what you want) and far more likely to achieve a vaginal birth.

Midwifery Led Care at JOGG
Traditionally you either have midwifery care or obstetric care.  The JOGG Midwifery Led Care program recognizes the importance of both professions, providing collaborative care for women and their families.

While obstetricians and midwives provide care for pregnancy and childbirth, midwives focus on providing personalized, holistic care that emphasizes natural childbirth and individualized support for the whole family.

Your obstetrician will be there at your delivery.

Midwives are the guardians of normal! Obstetricians are the ones we turn to if your pregnancy navigates outside of normal. This unique pathway focuses on the importance of continuity of care during pregnancy.
